The importing process can be a bit annoying the first time, but if you follow our step-by-step guide, you’ll learn how to import your contacts correctly and avoid errors.
Search Field
IMPORTANT – There are two required fields in order to import your contacts to the platform. They are: the contact’s name and a search field. Once the group’s search field is set, any contact to be imported to this group should necessarily have one of the three following details: mobile, landline, or email.
Preparing the spreadsheet and exporting in CSV
To import contacts, you should first:
Download the spreadsheet model below:
Operating System | Type of file | Extension | Download link |
---|---|---|---|
Windows | Excel 2010 | .xlsx | Windows_2010_XLSX_MP_Contatos_PT – 9 KB |
Mac OS X | Numbers or Excel | .xlsx | mobi-pronto-template-contatos-excel-mac-2007 – 28 KB |
Step 1. Open the spreadsheet model in Excel (Windows) or Numbers (Mac)
APPLE USERS – We suggest using the program Numbers. If you’re a Mac user, Numbers should be available for free download in the App Store. We don’t recommend using Excel (Office for Mac) because it doesn’t support exporting accented characters in CSV, such as á, é, í, ó, ú, ç, among others.
Step 2. Copy and paste your contacts’ data in the respective columns.
TIPS AND TRICKS – This process may be lengthy, but it’ll help avoid errors in the importing process. Many spreadsheets and CSV files exported from other programs have proprietary formatting and are not supported by our platform.
IMPORTANT – It is necessary that you:
- Fill in at least 2 columns: the contact’s name and the search field you previously set for the group to which you’ll import these contacts
- Delete the spreadsheet columns you won’t be using
- Don’t include columns in your spreadsheet with Custom Details. We’ll talk about how to Import Custom Details in another tutorial
Step 3. Export your spreadsheet in CSV format
Exporting your spreadsheet in CSV format via Excel (Windows)
- In the main menu, click on “File”
- Click on the “Save As…” option
- In the window that opens, choose “Save As Type: CSV (separated by commas)”
Exporting your spreadsheet in CSV format via Numbers (Mac)
- In the main menu, click on “File”
- Click on the “Export” option
- In the window that opens, choose “CSV” and “Unicode UTF-8” format (this option will preserve your accented characters)
Using the Import Module
- In the “Groups” list, click on the desired group
- Then click the “Import Contacts” button to open the Import Module
Step 1. Select and upload the CSV file
- Select the CSV option
- Select the file on your hardrive
- Click on the “Upload” button

Step 2. Synchronize the columns

- Match your spreadsheet’s columns to the platform’s fields
- In the “Help with the Telephone Formatting” area (optional): Select your contacts’ country. This will trigger an auto-correction of their numbers’ IDD code. If you forgot to add an area code to your original spreadsheet and all your contacts are from the same area, you can add it now as well.
- Click on “Continue”
